WHISPERS FROM SILENCEWHAT IS THE EGO
THE FALSE-SELF IN ALL OF US.
||||| The ego is the sumtotal of
all one's beliefs about oneself and his life. And since every belief is an illusion, the ego ultimately is an illusion. It makes one believe as if one is a
victim, or a saviour or an abuser and so on.
||||| Besides it feels that only it can save one from
certain circumstances. For example if one does not prove his worth to the society or to some particular person, as if the sky would fall.
||||| It is that part of one that makes one to believe that one is just
a fragment in an alien world. Because of this one gets a largely distorted view of the world.
||||| It is like a mental picture one has about himself as an individual to which
one holds and spents a lot amount of energy and time to protect it without realizing that life could go on very well even without it.
||||| The ego strongly believes it is who you are and that its death is your death. So it feels that a number of things have to be performed to keep itself alive and safe and moving i.e ( to keep you
alive according to it ).
||||| That one is either better than or inferior to
another or to the crowd or perhaps even the rest of mankind
||||| It is the death of the ego or rather the disidentification from it completely that
people refer to as enlightment.
CHILDREN DONOT HAVE IT.
||||| An average adult spents on an average of 92% of his mental
energy in defending, justifying, protecting, or proving his self-image.
||||| This is also the reason why children in their tender age are so
full of energy, enthusiasm, passion and so on.
||||| As a child one has an amazing power to concentrate and to grasp new things which an adult usually lacks.
||||| Children remain uninfluenced by the environment and infact the
environment gets influenced by them.
||||| Their ability to express themselves is very high compared to adults.
||||| One may never come across a mother of a 3-year old grumbling that my son is so shy, not at
all energetic, does not mix up with people.
||||| Yes, there may be complaints like my son grabbed a cat by its tail, is hyperenergetic,
mishievious, hardly sleeps and so on but then..........thats a different issue.
||||| The reason is that children donot have a self-image to unconsciously invest so much of
valuable mental energy. They just flow with their existence.
“I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

THE BIRTH OF THE EGO.
||||| Man is not born with an ego. The structure of the society is designed by the universe in such a
way that a false self image is created for him.
MOMENTS when the ego takes roots................
()If you do this you are a good boy or
else a bad boy.
()Look a JOHN, does he
trouble his parents (like you)?
()I wish you were like him.
()You are
lazy..........(an absolute statement).
()You are
stupid..
()You are brilliant
(as compared to others).
()You should be
like this. (you are not good enough the way you are now)
()Life should be lead like this.
(Life is not perfect the way it is right now).
()You are a good
boy.
()I don't know when you will be
matured.
()It is good you are not like
him.
()Thank GOD you are not like the
other boys in this society.
||||| In almost all the above cases, you must have noticed that the word you and in other cases the notion that things are not perfect now and you have to fix them.
||||| Slowly and slowly in your childhood, these things started happening more and more
frequently. These beliefs are actually dividing.
|||| The forms of divisions may be varied.... between you and someone else,
between you and the rest of the society,
your current habits and the so-called ideal habits, at times between you and the rest of mankind on this planet.(as if you were an alien)between your life at present and a so-called 'Perfect Future'.
NATURE OF THE EGO:
||||| The mind can be compared to a computer with the hardware(brain),
software (knowlege) and some unwanted programming that comes from the outside world (virus). This unwanted programming i.e virus, is what we
can call as the ego.
||||| The ego is basically a set of conditioning, beliefs, and habits that
one has invested for years together and may be still holding on to it.
||||| The ego is never in a mood to accept that these things are false and
that life can go on well even without them. It believes that life's existence depends solely upon these activities.
||||| However it is only that the false existence of the ego that depends upon these
activities.
||||| The real essence of existence is always present as you in the current moment (PRESENCE).
||||| It is because of the ego that suffering comes into existence. Without the ego, suffering is
impossible.
"ENLIGHTMENT is just the end of suffering. What remains after the end of suffering is for one to find out himself."

||||| The ego builds fences around itself against
the outer world. It makes one choose some circumstances and resist another set of cirumstances.
||||| It develops some preconceived notions of how life should go and turn
out.
||||| It rates life and evaluates life by
usually comparing life with the life of others.
||||| It makes one feel guilty, or a victim, or a savior, or an achievier and so on.
||||| It wants some or the other labels for it. And is constantly
purchasing labels for itself because without them, it cannot exist and under their cover it feels very
secure.
HOBBIES(ACTIVITES) OF THE EGO.
THE EGO LOVES......................
||||| Thinking.Its favourite job. Without thinking the ego senses
death.
||||| It is the activity of thinking that provides the ego with
nourishment, without with it cannot survive even for a week.
||||| Thinking in terms of linear
time....i.e past and future.
||||| Developing stratergies to avoid the present moment.
||||| Justifying one's own way of living or any activity.
||||| To be for or against anything i.e to be on either side of the
fence.
||||| To argue, debate, gossip, grumble etc.
||||| Building stratergies for the future as if without it life
would be full of chaos.
||||| Imagining circumstances, and people and problems that
donot even exist in the present.
||||| Comparison. The ego uses itself as a reference point and compares almost
everything and everyone with itself.
||||| Evaluation.The
immediate next step to comparison.
||||| The ego loves drama. Around people as well as in
imagination.
||||| Competion. It either wants you to fit in or stand out. This is
because for the ego, either you are not good enough as others or you are just too good than others.
||||| Brooting over the past. Its identity comes from the
past.
||||| In other cases it takes pride from the past achievements and
expectations.
||||| To put its teeth into problems. It strenghtens the sense of
self.
||||| Possessing, achieving etc.
|||| Analyzing. This is what truly ruptures relationships.

THE EGO HATES.
|||| Allowing things to be just as they are.
|||| It only understands manipulation and tampering with stuffs, be it
relationships or a journey or your present moment etc.
|||| BEING. The ego doesn't even understand being. (Yet the moments that one truly cherishes in life are the moments in which there was no doing but just being. It may be during a first kiss, or first love or during a sexual orgasm and so on).
|||| Surrender.The ego wants a confirmation to
everything. It may play a victim to life, but surrender?..nopesie-nopesie.
|||| The NOW moment. The food of the ego as well as its structure consists of time i.e
past and future(this has got nothing to do with the clock time).
The thought of being in the NOW also strikes terror for the ego.
Time, thinking, doing, achieving thats all it wants.
|||| Silence. The ego wants constant chatter, something to chew always, some clatter,
some noise, some activity and so some noise. It cannot tolerate silence even for a minute.
